Bug Off Balm

$9.00 - $18.00

Keep the summer pests away with this all-natural bug off balm. This balm is made with a slow infused organic herbal recipe, much of which came from my very own garden. Once strained, it’s combined with shea butter, neem oil + a blend of essential oils to create a all-natural + DEET FREE bug repellent to help provide a natural alternative to chemical-based insect repellents.

All herbs and oils used in this recipe are known for their bug repellent properties, and a thin layer is all that’s needed. Apply to areas such as your ankles and neck and you're good to go! I like to apply once every hour or two while I'm out working in the garden, just to be sure I don't come in with any bites.

Neem oil is effective against a wide range of insects, including mosquitoes, ticks, flies, ants, mites, and more. It acts as a broad-spectrum repellent, deterring various pests from biting or feeding on the skin due to its odor and taste. Neem oil acts as both a repellent and a deterrent and has moisturizing properties that can help nourish and soothe the skin.

Lemongrass essential oil contains high levels of citral, a natural compound known for its mosquito-repellent properties. It masks the attractant scents that mosquitoes use to locate their targets, reducing their attraction and decreasing the likelihood of bites.

Patchouli essential oil contains natural compounds that have insect-repellent properties. It can help repel a variety of insects, including mosquitoes, flies, gnats, and ants. Patchouli oil has a strong and unique scent that can help mask the attractant odors that insects use to locate their targets. By camouflaging these scents, it reduces the likelihood of being bitten or bothered by insects. I

Tea tree oil has a wide range of applications beyond bug repellent, it's easy to see why you'll find this ingredient in so many natural products! For some, it might have a bit of a odor that takes getting use to, much like the neem oil. I find it to be a herbaceous almost menthol like scent. Tea tree oil has natural insect-repellent properties that can help deter mosquitoes, flies, ticks, and ants. Its strong scent and constituents, such as terpinen-4-ol, are believed to contribute to its bug-repellent effects.

Lavender contains natural compounds, such as linalool and linalyl acetate, which act as mosquito repellents. These compounds create a scent that mosquitoes find unpleasant, reducing their attraction and potential for bites.

Peppermint's strong scent acts as a natural deterrent for insects. Peppermint contains high levels of menthol, which is known for its mosquito-repellent properties, as well as ants, flies and spiders.
